    GEORGIA STEAD

Essentially all the compartments of my brain spilled onto one web page. With lots of Sex and the City references.

I have almost come to the end of my year out. And I'm about to start something completely different, and go back to studying. Loads of people I know have already done a year of this, so it's not a big deal, but it is something I'm still afraid of; I'm still nervous for. I'm also excited, because I get to be out of full time work. I'm also waaay too excited about decorating a new room. Even if that means buying a plant pot and a poster that I can't hang up.

If you, one of the three people who read this, aren't sure whether a gap year is a good idea, I will 100% say that it is. It just is. And that's all there is really. It may not be for everyone, but you don't know until you take the risk. It also is very dependent on how you use it. For example, a gap year is amazing if you can plan, and afford, travelling around the world - this is unofficially called a "gap yaar". A gap year can also be amazing if you want to spend half of it at home and half of it living anywhere else. Maybe you want to make some money to cover what your student loan most likely won't. Or maybe you just want to get used to living alone, and learn how to use a washing machine or deal with budgeting weekly food shops and creating recipes. Either way, if you aren't ready for the seemingly large step to university, you don't have to follow everyone else. And they won't tell you this, but you can always defy your teachers and check the "defer" box on your ucas.

I might do a follow up post listing things I've learned over the past year.
But for now here's some more film from this past year, some more recent, some not.

I'm back in London, and it's hot and feels like I'm actually in the middle of Greece or something. Mid-melting and sweating out of every pore, I remembered I had 3 rolls of film to develop. And because London is a million steps ahead of every other british city I found a snappy snaps 2 minutes from the place I'm staying. And I got them developed. And they're all really cute to look back on and realise how much the company you keep makes a place. The people make the memory. I may not want to be back in Sunderland by any means, but I'd give anything and everything to be with the people who've moulded so much of this year for me. Some of whom photograph well, and some of whom didn't get the memo that I'd be snapping away without notice.

It's been two months since I last posted something and I'm not sure why. I could excuse it by saying I've been really busy with work or writing music or reading books but I think it's more the lack of inspiration in my current climate. Or I'm just lazy about it. Probably the latter.

So here's some stuff I've been reading, doing, interested in, listening to etc. in the past two months. Just to keep you up to speed.

    MUSIC:
I have been making monthly playlists, currently on my third, pretty sure I briefly mentioned it in a previous post. They tend to contain various genres of new discoveries and blasts from the past. If you want to give any of them a listen then voila...

    BOOKS:
I have some super smart friends who read super smart things, which is how I came about reading Giovanni's Room by James Baldwin, which is then how I ended up loving his work. (I also referenced this book in my personal statement when reapplying for uni, so essentially it is more than just a book, it is a life saver - not too dramatic a statement I hope). It's quite a short novel but writes about love and tragedy and travels in Europe. So it covers all the best literary topics.

Oddly enough, the other book I have read recently also falls under the genre of gay literature when using a quick google search. However it is in a more modern setting, yet still shares that European sunshine, south-of-wherever scenery that Giovanni's Room touches on. Call Me By Your Name by Andre Aciman, more commonly recognised for the recent film version starring two good-looking hollywood actor types, is a novel that follows the relationship between Elio and Oliver and it's actually really well written and if you want to know more then read it. It is on the more surprisingly explicit side however. Just a heads up.

    INTERESTED IN:
I've been sifting through a lot of archive runway show images recently. I can't tell you what sparked off this activity but I discovered some gems and saved about 200 images of old Calvin Klein shows to my computer, some of which may as well have been taken today with the way that trends have been recycled. These are a couple favourites.

I haven't shopped for clothes AT ALL in the past couple of months which is crazy for me. I've been trying to make a more conscious effort to only buy sustainable clothing that will last me longer and be more of an investment. And looking at all these archive images I feel it's time to invest the money I've been NOT spending in some slow fashion.

    DOING:
Seeing as I haven't been shopping really, I've had to find something else to take up my free time with. Instead, I've been writing a lot of music. Learning how to use GarageBand, messing around with a basic recording mic that can make my voice all echoey, putting together lyrics that do and don't tell realistic narratives. All of the above has taken place this past couple of months. I even did a small cover video (after it was requested). And although the quality is grainy and I start off a bit rusty and look a bit crap, it was fun to do and maybe I'll do some more in the near future. You can watch it below if you want, but no pressure.

I think that is about it for this rather lengthy catch-up post. If you made it this far both congratulations and thanks. I appreciate it. I have some pretty exciting things coming up which will, hopefully, spark way more inspiration than I could muster up over May and June.

(Also, I hope you've noticed and like the new design of the page)

    Thank u for reading.

At the beginning of February, which I am aware is agggggges ago, I went to Vienna with Vikki, more formally known as Victoria Jane. I eventually got my film developed from that trip and now they're here, all prettily laid out for you to love (or maybe hate??). It was a really fun 4 days in the most clean city I've ever been to. We stayed in a cute hotel, and basically went on a tour of the city's cafes that I'd pre-researched via Instagram.

    Anyway, here are some pics.
I definitely recommend visiting the place at least once before you die. The public transport system is amazing. I sound like such a public transport nerd but I probably am one. We pretty much walked everywhere because it's not too big in terms of a city and, although freezing, the high quality of their hot beverages made up for it. Vienna blends its history, which Vikki likes, with its cafe culture, which I LOVE, really well. The retail therapy facilities aren't lacking either.

And, most importantly, it wasn't too shabby to photograph.

Hello, welcome back. It has been a while. But here we are. The two people who actually read this (my parents most likely) and me. A lot of stuff has occurred in the month that I haven't written, for me personally. So, for easy reading purposes, I shall list.

    Here we go.

    1. I am no longer going to study French in Paris in September. I completely reapplied to a new course and 5 new places and actually got in!!!!!! *live audience cheers*. Therefore, I will now be studying in London come September. My ends. If you want to know any specifics just text me because if you're reading this you probably know me in person (thanks for the support by the way).

    2. I gave the blog a re-vamp; an update; a re-do. It was feeling lacklustre, much like myself, and I wanted to make it more fun and more in tune with what I imagine the creative colonies of my brain would like if I were to make them a webpage. Essentially that is what a blog is. So, yes lots of pink and red and emojis and cute shit comme ca.

    3. I got a job. I work in a cafe. It's difficult mostly because it is often invaded by small children who throw scones, but rewarding because I am literally rewarded with free coffees. So at least it offers balance.

    4. I threw away 95% of my skincare products. Technically I only threw them away into a bag in the corner of my room because they were expensive and they're not all finished. But either way I am no longer using them to see if my skin improves on a more natural and minimal routine. Maybe an update to follow soon??????? Maybe.

    5. I've discovered SO MUCH music this month. Mostly thanks to my very cool indie sister. And it's all collated onto a monthly playlist which may have a dedicated post somewhere in the near future. If you're interested in some absolute TUNES.

I am running out of things to list, because I, of course, exaggerated about the amount of stuff that has changed since February. But yes, I have returned. Much to your dismay I imagine.

Just when you thought my little crappy blog had finally gone from your social feed.

    It hasn't.

Recently I was invited to a Launch Party for the new MiistaShoes store in Paris. Their first store is in London and being invited to this new one was really exciting for me. Not only was the invite really cute and almost a pinch-me moment, but the brand makes some amazing shoes. And I love shoes.

So last week I went to Paris, for this party amongst other things. The shop was nicely decorated with lots of stone wall, very minimal shelving and some beautiful photos, which meant that the real showstoppers could shine - the shoes. I pretty much loved every single pair and I wish I could've taken them home with me. However, my case was already too heavy and my wallet a little too empty to buy even one pair. They are a splurge, but a great one at that. And if you are ever near one of their sample sales DO NOT miss out because I'm pretty sure the discounts are crazy good.

Every pair of shoes presented was of a high quality and made of comfortable materials. I tried some on just to make sure. Tried and tested by yours truly (sadly not bought though). My personal favourites were the light brown short boots. Very practical, of course, because realistically I'd be too scared to step outside in the metallic moon boots, as much as I adored them. There were also some gorgeous sandals, and many variations of them. Some yellow, Coney Island-style tie-up heels particularly caught my eye.

In all honesty, there is a pair of shoes for everyone on their site, and hopefully more to come in store. It may be my leftover excitement talking, or the memories of the INCREDIBLE wine we were given, but either way, it was such a nice experience and if you're planning to spend some hard earned cash on a gorgeous investment, I would most definitely suggest you get some Miista shoes.
Because your shoes take you places.

    So go stylishly.
